The countryside and rural crime
Our countryside in the UK is rich with natural beauty and an appealing option for people wanting to escape the busy city and town centres. Whilst countryside living looks idyllic, it also has issues with crime. Rural areas have their own set of security risks which can be effectively reduced with appropriate defence systems and awareness of potential dangers.
There have been substantial increases in fraud and other scams, with criminals deliberately targeting isolated, vulnerable people. Something that has been driven by the greater number of people moving to rural areas.
The secluded nature of rural properties can be appealing to an opportunist mobile criminal, hence increasing a requirement for an appropriate security solution. This is the same in the forestry areas which also experience crime issues.
There are rural problems typically associated with the countryside such as wildlife and heritage crime, farm equipment and animal thefts, agricultural machinery, and livestock theft, are uniquely rural.
Rural crime is a big concern for UK farmers. Did you know that rural crime cost the UK £49.9 million in 2018 and rising? Farms are targets for a variety of different crimes. These include, but are not limited to, fly-tipping, livestock theft, livestock butchery and hare coursing. This can leave those affected feeling vulnerable and isolated.
